Based on I Corinthians 13:13 "And now these three remain: Faith, Hope and Love. But the greatest of these is Love". This himeni (hymn) was composed for the Congregational Church's Ho‘ike (Celebration) on the island of Mau‘i about 1925, by ‘Oiwi Hawai‘i Haku Himeni (Hawaiian Composer of Hymns) Robert J.K. Nawahine (1865 - 1951) who was an outstanding musician and leader of the central Mau‘i churches.
*Note: Great-grand-nephew of Robert J. K. Nawahine is HCCW lālā ‘ōiwi Pila Short. His wife, HCCW lālā ho‘okama Eveline Short. They two reside in Līhuʻe, Wahiawā, Halemano, puʻuhonua kapuʻahuawa, piko ʻo Kūkaniloko, O‘ahu, Island, Hawai‘i.
